Bodily Injury & Property Damage & Guest Passenger (BIPD/GP) Coverage

Pays when an insured person is legally liable for bodily injury or death caused by your vehicle or your operation of most non-owned vehicles. This coverage also pays for your legal defense if you are sued.

Common Exclusions: No coverage for (1) bodily injury/death when you are using your vehicle to carry persons or property for compensation or a fee (except when used for charitable events.); (2) liability assumed under a contract; (3) bodily injury/death to an employee; (4) bodily injury/death caused by an intentional act; (5) property owned by, rented to, or in the charge of an insured person; (6) bodily injury/death to you or relative; (7) bodily injury/death or property damage resulting from a relativeÔÇÖs use of a vehicle, other than a covered vehicle, owned by a person who resides with you; or (8) bodily injury or property damage resulting from your operation or use of a vehicle owned by you, other than a covered vehicle.

Options may include:

* Split limits which are displayed as 100/300/50. The most we would pay for any one person's bodily injuries is $100,000, up to a total of $300,000 for all person's bodily injuries for each accident occurrence. The maximum Property Damage payout for any one accident is $50,000.
* Combined single limits which are displayed as CSL. Bodily Injury & Property Damage are a combined coverage having one policy limit. Example: 300 CSL
* None - No coverage.

Custom Parts or Equipment (CPE) Coverage

Provides coverage for the first $1,000 of loss to custom parts or equipment (CPE) FREE of charge. Input total value of CPE and the first $1,000 of coverage will not be charged for. "Custom parts or equipment" means equipment, devices, accessories, enhancements and changes other than those which are original manufacturer installed, which alter the appearance or performance of the cycle. This includes, but is not limited to:

* any electronic equipment, antennas, and other devices used exclusively to send or receive audio, visual, or data signals, or play back recorded media, other than those which are original manufacturer installed, that are permanently installed on the cycle using bolts or brackets, including slide-out brackets;
* sidecars;
* trailers designed to be pulled behind a motorcycle or ATV;
* custom paint, custom plating, or custom exhaust;
* safety riding apparel, including helmets. (Coverage is only provided in the event of a collision loss. Theft is not covered.)

You must retain receipts for all Custom Parts and Equipment added to your motorcycle. These receipts will be needed at the time of loss as proof of the value of the Custom Parts and Equipment. We also recommend that you retain photos of the motorcycle. Additional documentation helps expedite loss settlements.

Guest Passenger or Guest Passenger Liability (GUEST) Coverage
Provides protection for legal liability in the event that a guest passenger is injured on the insured vehicle. Guest Passenger coverage may be a mandatory coverage and may be included in the BI/PD Liability coverage or it may be an optional coverage and must be purchased separately to have any coverage for bodily injury sustained by a guest on your vehicle.

Note: In some states, Guest Passenger coverage covers injuries sustained by household members of the named insured (e.g. Self, spouse, children) UP TO THE STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for Bodily Injury. In those states, any claims by a household member in excess of the state minimums ARE NOT COVERED. In other states, guest passenger coverage DOES NOT cover injuries sustained by household members of the named insured (e.g. Self, spouse, children). Please review your policy contract for full details about the coverage.

Medical Payments (MED PAY) Coverage
Pays certain medical and funeral expenses resulting from a motor vehicle accident. This coverage protects anyone occupying your vehicle. It also covers you and relatives who reside in your household while in other vehicles or if struck as a pedestrian. These benefits are payable without regard to fault. This coverage may not be available in states that require Personal Injury Protection Benefits.

Common Exclusions are similar to those for Bodily Injury Liability Coverage (see above).

Transport Trailer (Trailer) Coverage

Transport Trailer Physical Damage Coverage provides Comprehensive and Collision coverage to your transport trailer. A transport trailer is any non-motorized trailer pulled by a car, truck or motorhome and is designed for transporting a motorcycle, ATV, dirtbike, etc. listed on the motorcycle policy. Only one transport trailer available per policy. Up to $10,000 of coverage is available. In the event of a claim, it will be the insured's responsibility to verify the value of the transport trailer.

property and casualty insurance

Burnz...
Buy as much coverage as you can afford given your household incomes, net worth, goals, concerns, and risk tolerance. Assume that everyone driving or riding around you is either uninsured or underinsured.

Add an excess liability umbrella, if your net worth is over $XXX-this will vary by household, etc. and your agent can help you with this calculation. Include the values of your house, retirement plans, vehicles, investment accounts, and expensive personal property.

Put your home owners insurance and vehicle coverages with the same carrier in order to get combined/preferred discounts.

Add an identity theft rider for a few bucks a month.

Do not get snookered into buying a high cost life insurance policy from the same carrier in order to obtain an "additional discount". duh.

Pay annual premiums or monthly EFT drafts from your checking account.

Try to do business with an agent who is independent and who can shop the market for you by looking at several companies. Captive agents only represent one company, and they may not have the flexibility of pricing or fine print that you are looking for. Note: I did not say that captives are bad. They tend to be super competitive in markets they want...if you are in the market, then great!
