Idle Regulating Valve (IRV) Question

happy wanderer

Day Dreaming ...
Sorry for double posting. I have asked this question in another very long and old thread (Surging = Needs Service) but thought maybe someone out there would recognize this particular issue.

My '96 R1100RT has an IRV, no O2 sensor and no CCP from the factory. I read kenk's old post (A BMW Fix to Surging R1100 Series Bikes) and realized my high idle might be better solved by adjusting the IRV and not the throttle plates. Once I did the zero-zero procedure as per Rob Lentini and synchronized the throttle bodies, I adjusted the the IRV to lower the idle. I seem to have screwed things up terribly. The idle is now rough, the bike is coughing and occasionally backfiring at idle and surges worse than before.

Does anyone know what the factory default setting or procedure for setting the IRV should be? I do not have a exhaust analyzer so I am wondering if there is a way to set it up myself.

Looks like it's off to the local repair shop to insert the rectal probe and see how bad the fumes are. :rofl

I sort of doubted there would be any info about the IRV since 99% of the US model bikes don't have one installed. But hey, you never know!
;)
