Before I jump into troubleshooting the system, I want to see what the brain trust here might have to offer.
First off, it is possible that both filaments are broken the the bulb, but I kind of doubt that.
Turn key on- headlight does not come on but the high beam indicator is on and stays on no matter which position the left High/Low/Flash switch is in.
Start the bike and nothing changes- no headlight and the high beam indicator is on. I am leaning toward the load shedding relay but am puzzled by the high beam indication.
I have a euro type headlight switch on the right side that was installed a couple of years ago when the start button fell apart.
I plan to first check for power and ground at the bulb connector and go from there, but would like to hear from you guys also.

Fixed it this morning. Turned out that the headlight bulb connector must have had enough light corrosion to prevent the bulb from working. I unplugged it and checked for power and ground where they should be and all was good. Plugged it back in and all is working as it should. I suppose one should expect this type of problem on a bike approaching 40 years old.
