2015 RnineT Vololight Installation Assistance

A friend with an RnineT purchased Vololights for his ride. He attempted the install, but after riding with him on Sunday and attempting to calibrate the lights, it appears that there's a problem. I tend to think that somehow he tapped into the CanBUS system on the bike for a source of power. I believe that the RnineT has a system which is partially CanBUS and partially conventional in order to make customization easier.

The symptoms are: 1) that the LEDs in the Vololight piece are not very bright when they light up at all, 2) the system seems to calibrate successfully with the appropriate number of flashes, but 3) there's no LED activation upon slowing down.

Any help or advice anyone could offer is sincerely appreciated.

Hi John,

I have no experience with Vololights.

I'd disconnect whatever power connection he made, and then temporarily reconnect the power feed directly to the battery. That way, you can see how the lights behave when the feed is not being affected by a Can-Bus issue. If the lights work correctly with a direct feed, then you know that the prior feed is an issue. If they behave the same, then I'd suspect the lights are defective.

Thanks Dave and Wyman. He was going to call them yesterday, but hadn't heard back yet. I figured someone had done this and had the key to the problem.
