2007 Final Drive Circlip Question

Recently I changed the gear oil in my 2007 R1200R final drive. I used many resources including the great DIY thread by Semper Fi
(http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread...ive-Fluid-Change-and-Spline-Lube-Pre-2008-DIY), Jim VonBaden's site (http://www.jimvonbaden.com/R1200_Final_Drive.html), my Haynes manual, and a few forum searches. The job went fairly well but I wonder about the circlip (or spring clip) that is shown on the aft end of the drive shaft in this parts fiche:

http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51804&rnd=04302013

I don't recall feeling the final drive pop into place, but all exterior fasteners lined up, so I buttoned it up and have gone on a few rides with no ill effects. Can anyone comment on the spring clip in the above link? Do I have to worry about the FD self-destructing because I did not fully mate it? I don't see how it could actually go together without being fully mated.

Thanks,
BH

Unfortunately links to the Max site bring you to the top level for the selected bike, not the specific diagram you were looking at. I find realoem better when I need to send a link to a specific diagram. That said, I know the diagram you were looking at. Ignore the diagram for a second and look at the actual parts list below the diagram. It is a bit more accurate. It states the quantity of part "2" (the snap ring) is "1". Only one ring. It's at the transmission end of the drive shaft although there is no way to tell that from the parts fiche alone.

Yeah, it's on the tranny end to keep the shaft from sliding out/off the tranny output spline. It's a bear to line up if it does:banghead

Thanks!

Great! Thanks very much and man that's what I was hoping the case would be. :) Next time I have a question like that I will post the diagram itself. Cheers!
