Recently I changed the gear oil in my 2007 R1200R final drive. I used many resources including the great DIY thread by Semper Fi
(http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread...ive-Fluid-Change-and-Spline-Lube-Pre-2008-DIY), Jim VonBaden's site (http://www.jimvonbaden.com/R1200_Final_Drive.html), my Haynes manual, and a few forum searches. The job went fairly well but I wonder about the circlip (or spring clip) that is shown on the aft end of the drive shaft in this parts fiche:

I don't recall feeling the final drive pop into place, but all exterior fasteners lined up, so I buttoned it up and have gone on a few rides with no ill effects. Can anyone comment on the spring clip in the above link? Do I have to worry about the FD self-destructing because I did not fully mate it? I don't see how it could actually go together without being fully mated.
Thanks,
BH
