1988 R100RT and Model 231 Reynolds’s Rack

I have a 1988 R100RT the luggage rack on the bike is not very robust. I purchased a Model 231 Reynolds’s Rack which is supposed to bolt right on, my question what should I do first? It looks like removing the seat, the rear cowel and light assembly possible starting point perhaps not necessary?
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

Is powerlet socket using a attachment point.
Edit the Reynolds’s rack bolts right behind powerlet socket

I looked at one of the latest brochures for Reynolds before they went out of business. In the 1985 catalog, they do not list an R231 luggage rack. They only provide fitment for the twin shock models. So I'm wondering where the documentation is for the post twin shock models is. Did they ever design anything for the later bikes? Snowbum indicates the company dissolved in 1999 but I've never seen any brochures past 1985.

I guess I don't really know how to help putting this on. Seems like the cowl in the back is going to be an issue.

The following is from a thread way back, 2008 by Barryg.

"I'm looking at a '91 Reynolds catalog. The #230 '85-'87 R80, R80RT The #231 "88 -90 R100 models. Not GS. The #230 is used in conjunction with the older style moto cases and the #231 is used with the newer k style intregal bag mounts. Both are flat steel racks. The # 241 fits '91 K models. Confusing even with the catalog in hand. Hope this helps."

Reynolds’s rack

I will get some good pictures to help future airheads. I took the seat, cowel and all the back lights off it looks like my 231 rack will bolt up I do have the s style racks that fit the k bags and have verified that a set of k bags will work on my mounts only difference the k bags have one more latch to hold them closed

Thanks for help

That’s exactly how mine was mounted before I removed it. Ended up selling the rack but still have the backrest. PM me if interested in backrest. No need for it any more.
