switch

A lot of the time the year helps on a question like this along with the specific switch in question (left or right).

I'm assuming you're referring to the "campaign" Bmw is having to replace the left and right switch clusters with new/updated ones.

if that is true, then yes, I have had that done on my 2013 BMW R1200RT. its pretty straight forward. I even piggyback-ride an ASC upgrade on it.

What of it?

Is this only on the R1200RT? BMW has had a lot of bad switches on other models.

it seemed to have covered the models that had went to the japanese turn signal style (Camhead models). dont think it covers any of the 05-09 models.

edit: dont know if it would affect other models like the k1300's; do they use the same switch part numbers as the RT's?

Right side has the same part number and this is the switch I've had trouble with. The K1300S does not have an elec. windshield so that part number is different.
Most of the K and R bikes have the same Japanese turn signals now.

I was planning to buy a new right side switch this spring before our first trip, so it would be nice to know if BMW will replace the switches for free.

Is this a Recall, Campaign, or Service Bulletin?

It is a "Campaign" according to my dealer.

I went in there asking about the switch recall and they corrected me. I'm guessing cuz its not a safety issue like the r1200rtw shocks.

My VIN fell into this campaign.

"Campaign" means it's voluntary and the gov't didn't make BMW do this. I suspect a lot of it comes out of the supplier's hide.

I read on I-BMW, a Canadian member is having both switches replaced free on his K1300R.

I have had both switches replaced on my 2011 RT by the dealer while it was under warranty. I was told it was a known problem, and BMW Canada was being proactive, doing both sides if one side failed.
