Flat tappet engine on my 2007?

Your Hexhead has valves that adjust with a screw-thread adjuster built into the valve gear. That is, the correct clearances are set using open-end metric wrenches to loosen and tighten the locknuts, feeler gauges to measure, and your fingers to turn the adjuster. Later Camhead models (on the R, from 2010) require the use of a shim (BMW-speak: "semi-sphere") available in graduated sizes to obtain the correct clearance. See: http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?42731-CAMHEAD-Tech-2010-DOHC-Boxer-Valve-Adjustment-Procedure

And, yes, your bike has what would be considered "flat" tappets. The cam follower has a flat face which slides on the camshaft lobe, contrasted to a roller follower which rolls along the face of the cam.

And, guessing at the root of the question, thus the emphasis on sufficient anti-wear, anti scuffing additive in oils for BMW motorcycles.
