You know what I like about Phoenix?

I used to work the U 0f A area both on the East side and West side of campus. One of the big problems with the U, in both cities, was the large influx of out of state students. In other words it's not a Tsn vs Phx situation it a kiddies away from home situation with some other imports thrown in as well.

You are spot on with the HOV lane, Tsn in it's infinite, backwards, not in my backyard "wisdom" refuses to put in a decent freeway system to handle traffic in a logical manner. It's beyond dumb or stupid.

I'm a Tsn native and spent 50 years there. One of the best things IMO is seeing it disappear in the rear view mirror when we leave. We do visit at least once a year for Dr. and Dentist stuff as well as seeing the youngest but the "thrill" of being there is long long since gone. It does have better weather than Phx however and a far lower concentration of "scum devils" Those are a plus in it's favor. :stick

Hello Jeff,

Jordan M from Scottsdale, here. Seeing you be a bit of Tucson uppity :)
I love those overflowing roads - I used my brand new F 800 S to carve right past all of them in the HOV this morning - it was a great way to commute, with a 72 degree trip in, and a 84 to 75 to 73 degree trip home, as the info display ambient temp displayed the more North I drove out of the city until home.

Now Tucson, you should hear the nasty things my UA honors college daughter has to say about the areas around the school. That's as scary as anything I hear about Phoenix.

Life in the first decade of the 2K's. Reminds me about a couple of movies starting with the words "Escape from" but i still love the weather, and my home is out of the brown cloud, while my mid-town office has a great view of it, hanging over the inner city but most days, it is clear. Yesterday it was not, and my car was covered in soot at the end of the day. Today was clear.:wave

Right now, I-10 through Tucson is a mess. It is under construction until 2010! Avoid I-10 betweeen Phoenix and to and through Tucson insofar as you can, due to its congestion and the frequency of crashes that back traffic up. The 75 MPH speed limit and 80-85 MPH routine speeds, incompetent drivers, and narrow pavement are a recipe for disaster. One crash yesterday afternoon stopped eastbound traffic dead for 20 hours! I recommend avoiding it almost as much as avoiding riding Chicago around the tip of Lake Michigan.

Tucson is growing and sprawling very fast. In 20 years, it will probably be as congested and polluted as Phoenix is today. We have have had record heat yesterday and today, and probably more the coming days, perhaps thanks to El Ni??o. With global warming, I fear the desert areas of Arizona below the Mogollon Rim will become uninhabitable within a couple of decades. It's probably a race between heat and loss of potable water.

Having noted that, right now Tucson is fabulous in the winter due to its riding weather -- for the time being. Come on down :)

I remember Loebs BBQ. They had a chain of them around Memphis, I believe they were all in their own little strip malls all over town next to their laundromats. I can't remember what happened to them. :dunno There are so many good and excellent BBQ joints, the list is endless. A neat place close to downtown is Neely's Interstate BBQ on south Third. Enjoy.

I had three left, so I threw them in my bag when I came home.

I'll get them chilled down and work on them this weekend.

:drink

Schlitz & PBR

We used to get that stuff by the pallet load in Vietnam, for some reason it was all that was brought into the country. I never could stand the stuff after that:drink :hungover :sick

Bubbazanetti is probably a Sam Adams guy.

if i have to, that is like the "going to someone's graduation party" beer. and you get lots of people saying "you like the good stuff, huh" hahhaha

my main beer is sierra nevada pale ale or bass. i'm also very partial to anything from the Stone and Rouge breweries. Racer 5 is an excellent beer and when i'm feeling like a treat Worldwide Stout from Dogfishhead, 18% abv, drinks a bit like a brandy.

i'm spoiled though the Best Place to Have a Beer in America 2006 is a stones throw away from my house and owned by a friend.:thumb

The quote from my highschool year book came from a Schlitz ad,

" You only go around once in life, you've got to reach for all the Gusto you can" the ad went on to say even in the beer you drink.

Hatch Valley Chili Company. Spin off of Si Senor's in Deming, NM.

Man I miss the good Mexican food. Not available east of the Rio Grande.

Brother aint it the truth! I have my son send me a box of hatch green chili, fresh picked every year. He sends it overnight express and I roast and freeze it here. We also get the hatch red chili powder to make our red chili. I couldn't live without it. Sunday morning is our eggs, chili, beans, potatoes and chili day:heart :eat

I came down in February last year and this year. Rented GSs out of Scottsdale. Getting out of Phoenix area in the traffic made for some sphincter pucker. Road systems in both Phoenix and Tuscon lag far behind the on going sprawl. All major metro areas, though, in the USA suffer to a degree from that. Riding the desert and mountain backcountry between Organ Pipe and New Mexico was a pleasant alternative to the above. Ten days to two weeks in AZ is enough for me, before the lakes, north woods, clean air and Leinie's calls me back home.

Good for you, Bubba!

When I was your age, I drank only for effect, not for taste. That's why we drank Pabst, Old Mil, etc. It seems you already drink your beer for taste. Good for you.

Wasn't Old Mil borne of Schlitz? I always thought as a teen that Old Mil was just cheap Schlitz, kind of like Keystone is just cheap Coors.

I'm not a snob, I'll drink cheap beers right along with the expensive ones. I like most flavors of Leinie's, a Wisconsin beer (lagers, mostly) that taste very good. You can still get Grainbelt Premium locally, it's a good beer as well.

This past fall, I picked up a 6 of Hacker-Schorr (sp) Oktoberfest. Oh, my, was that some fine tasting stuff. :thumb

Schlitz, the beer that made Milwaukee famous. One of their ads back in the day, if I remember correctly.
