Where to mount airhorn on 2011 R1200RT?

After a close encounter (fortunately not too close) with a pickup that pulled out to pass without signalling or checking to see if I was there, I bought a Stebel Nautilus air horn.
It won't fit where the stock horn goes as far as I can tell. Anybody have ideas/experience with another location? Could it be placed under the passenger seat or inside the fairings?

I am waiting for an answer?

Mine fit where the stock horn was on my R1200S, once we removed the fuel canister California requires.

Hey Jack,

I removed the electrical horn and mounted the Stebel horn in the same location. It took a little bit of jerry rigging with an angle bracket but it will fit. A little time and patience will go a long way toward completing a quality installation.

BTW I have a 2011 R1200RT also and what a treat it is.

It took a little bit of jerry rigging with an angle bracket .

I can see the bracket you made, I think. It has a bolt and machine screw by the look of it. It also looks like the horn is mounted somewhat parallel to the long axis of the bike. But what does the bracket mount on? Is it mounted on the OEM horn bracket?

Any other pictures or info would be great. And thanks!

I mounted one on our 09R1200RT similar to dude987 by using the factory bracket, modified slightly by drilling a new hole to bolt the horn on. BTW, Harbor Freight sells the same horn under the Wolo brand and call it the Bad Boy. The money that you save can help pay for a nice wiring harness from Eastern Beaver.

Here is another view...very clean and sanitary...use factory bracket as I remember..place it and then conform bracket.

i was lucky enough to take delivery of a 2012 r1200rt today. dealer was nice enough to throw on fiamm freeway highway blasters <one high note and one low note>. one was mounted where the stock horn was located and the other in the location where a horn was previously located on earlier models. thanks to this board for all the helpful information about horns and more.

Horn installed

:) After much time wasted trying to remove the stock bracket, I searched my supply of "junk" and found a large U-bolt that had a cross-piece that looked about right. Mounting was pretty straight-forward after that because I had the excellent pictures as a guide. It ended up with a more vertical position because the strap was a bit shorter.

Many thanks to all who posted. I would not have known that there was a hole on the frame to which the horn could be bolted.:thumb

The sound is incredible. I think I will need to be careful not to frighten the cagers.:dance

Late response. I mounted the angle bracket purchased at a local hardware store on the same location where the OEM horn was mounted. Also the reason I used the angle bracket is that it provide just enough distance between the horn and the frame in front of the gas tank such that the horn does not bounce or bump against the frame when the front suspension dips or squats during compression. Anyways glad it worked out for you.

Is there a part number for the Eastern Beaver wiring harness by any chance?

Unfortunately, it appears that he isn't making those harnesses anymore. I suggest you contact Jim at: jim@easternbeaver.com to inquire.

From his site: NOTICE: I am no longer making some Kits. I just don't enough time. So I have removed some products from the site to concentrate on the more popular stuff. I will be reducing my selection of Powerlet Products as well. Please be patient as I'm very busy at this time of year and trying to get orders out as quickly as possible. Most orders are going out within 5 days of ordering. Thank you for your support!

Cheers!
