Warning lights UPDATE

I originally posted under ‘warning lights’ last week. Thank you everyone who responded. Got the bike to the dealer this morning. They just called me. It’s not the stator. Appears that it is the 50 amp fuse. At this point they don’t know what would have caused a spike to blow the fuse. They had to order the fuse. They said a week to ten days. I’m pretty stoked that I don’t have go the stator route. I’ll gladly wait the 7-10 days.
 
50 amps is truly some very serous current, even at "just" 12 volts. :eek:
Start looking for a short "somewhere", and Murphy sez it'll be intermittent. :banghead
 
Could still be the stator. If it is the 50 AMP fuse, something catastrophic caused to pop.

I share everyone’s concern about not finding the cause. I’ll definitely have a conversation with the technician when the fuse gets here.
There are four additional leads attached to the positive post. One for the Clearwater lights up front. One for the addition flashing tail lights. One for the battery tender and one for additional cords for iPhone stored in the right compartment.
Since I just bought the bike and did not install any of these items, I’m considering pulling everything and starting from scratch. Not sure how the additional load could possibly cause my problem.

Just throwing it out there………50 AMP DC is sizable. Any of the wiring associated with the above would have melted before the fuse went bad.
I will be interesting to hear how this turned out.

While 50 AMPS is a high current, at 12 V it's "only" 600 Watts...

If there is no obvious melted wiring, then it's most likely the stator or the starter motor. I'd bet on the latter...
 
I read that BMW Updated the stator starting May 2014. My build date was September 2014. I’m curious as to how many with a build date after May 2014 have had a stator problem.
 
Ouch, I’m sorry you had to go through that. So much for the May 2014 theory. Guess you can’t believe everything you read on the web. Go figure.
 
Properly applied, a common 9-volt "transistor radio" battery can throw you across the room.
And I think it only takes about 100 milliamps to stop (and/or restart) your heart.
I have a Tens Unit and it runs a 9 volt battery. I can make you shake like jello with it.

Whoa! Transistor radio! Dated yourself there buddy. I'm 68, and haven't seen one of those since radial tires were newfangled.
 
Ya, I'm a bit older, but maybe not a bit wiser!
I still use a DVM and a guitar tuner with 9-volt batteries, but my Radio Shack calculator actually uses a li'l coin battery!
