Tires for k100rs

After 56 hits to my post it seems no one has used Pirelli sport demons on their mount. Can anyone give me feedback on their choice of tires.

On my 1991 K100RS I need to replace the Dunlop D220's I installed this August. With 4.5K they are down to the wear bars and both front and rear are *baddly* cupped. Pressure was run as per owners manual which I believe is 33F, 36R. When traveling with luggage I upped it to 35F and 39R. All riding has been solo. I just saw on Dunlop's site they advise F36 and R42 so I may be to blame. Still, I will probably try Z6's now.

Hey byker,

I am ready to buy tires for my 89K100RS and am also interested in knowing what are the recommended tires for a K100RS. Did you get any ideas? I am in Mississauga so maybe we can go for a ride (in the spring).

oh no, the dreaded tire thread...

Used a couple of sets of Michelin Pilot ROADs on the K1 this season.
Very happy with them (moderately aggressive riding / touring)
Excellent (confidence inspiring) in the wet.
Will buy more -- if available --
Tires, it seems that as soon as you find a brand / model that works,
they redesign them, improve them, rename them, and the search begins anew !

I got a Metzler 880 on the front an currently a Kenda cheapie on the rear (last owner). I'm pretty happy with the Metz, I was told they don't make a size for the rear anymore. I'll probably buy a Macadum for the when needed.

I ran Metzeler Z4's on my 91 KRS and would get about 9,000 on average per set......certainly the Z6's, which I know run on both my oilheads, would be worth trying. However, Parts Unlimited was running a spcial on all their left over Z4's....buy a rear and get the front free. Can't really comment on other brands since I have always run Metzelers on all my BMW's and they have never failed me...

I ran a Metzeler 880 front and a Michelin Macadam 50 rear. I found this the best tire combination in 37,000mi. of riding the '85 K100RT.
The Macadam 50 front cups badly in 5,000mi.

I've been quite happy running Bridgestone BT20's. Good grip, work well in the rain. Seem to have a pretty decent lifespan, but I have been getting flats about every 10,000 miles recently so I don't know how much longer they'll go. Maybe 15K?

Tire longevity is remarkably subjective. Living in the northwet, performance in the rain has always been a high priority.

This past summer I put 10,000 miles on a rear Continental Conti Tour tire which was a good tire wet or dry. I also used a Dunlop D404 tire which was cheaper but only lasted 7,000 miles and seemed to fall into corners more than the Conti. I prefer the Conti.

I tend to ride long distance, primarily. Or simply down for coffee ... except the coffeeshop I like is in the next state ... soooo...
... if you ride that way, Metzler does indeed make a rear:

Check out Metzeler - ?? Product Info ?? Tyres Catalogue ?? index

The website gives you a pop-up chart?

But is that for an '88 K100RS? I'm not sure if the wheel sizes changed or not.
