Tires changes @ the rally...

The letter has been posted on this forum under Information for rally attendees by bmwarabia.

Frank's Motorcycle Sales has always treated me well

I've serviced and stored my 1990 K75RT with Frank's and Lester and the others have always treated me with respect. As others have noted, Frank's will be offering a very good deal on Mettzlers during the rally. I'd encourage everyone to at least stop by and meet the fine people at our local BMW dealership.

Better read the letter. Buy a Metzeler rear tire and get a front tire free.
Where is this letter to be found????

It is getting worse in the central US. At least seven BMW dealers are gone in the last two years. In case someone riding through doesn't know, these dealers are gone--Indianapolis, South Bend, St.Louis, Rockford, Peoria, Rock Island, Cincinnati. Most were exclusive BMW.
Happy trails.
St Louis is still in business, they moved to a new location.

A few left in this crossroads of America are--Iowa City, Geneva, Champaign, Louisville, Fort Wayne.
There's a BMW dealer on the interstate east of Des Moines, Ia. They used to be Van Wall in Indianola.

BMW of Omaha has moved to Council Bluffs, Ia.

Both shops are large multi brand shops.

What’s been the history of pricing of tires/tire changes at past national rallies? I just priced a set of Michelins, and found their show price is still higher than ordering from Revzilla (even when factoring no sales tax in Oregon), and the labor and disposal fee is $65 per tire. I’m not complaining, but was under the impression that buying at the show resulted in a savings. Is my memory incorrect? Is this unique to Michelin?

My advise is to leave home with a fresh set rather then chance it at a rally that may or not may have a vendor with the right equipment and crew to change tires... The rally in Montana did and those guys were awesome but that isn't always the case.. YMMV

My experience has been that pricing was about the same as at many dealers. This might be higher than procurement from mail-order type vendors.

I just had my service done a bit early and had a new tire put on, even though it probably had a few thousand more on it. Not enough to go 6,500 miles though. I find the peace of mind to be worth a few extra bucks and I'm generally a cheapskate!

I'm picking up a new set of tires at Gateway before the rally. (And if you schedule on a Saturday, there's doughnuts and coffee while you're kicking tires or trying one of the demo.)

If they don't have what you want, there's a few other pro dealers in town.

Living in St. Louis, I also have to give a shout out to the No-Mar folks and their affiliated motorcycle tire shop MotoTire USA. https://www.mototireusa.com/. Great expertise.

Have to say, I enjoyed watching the Dunlop racing techs do their thing at the Great Falls Rally when a local team/dealership wasn't available. Would have paid money to see them in action.

Never sure who's going to be torquing my wheels back on at the rally. Not true at my dealership (or at MotoTire USA -above - where no one's changing tires without 5000 changes behind them).

Of course, if one has any doubts about whether that front wheel is fastened correctly at the rally, there's a few thousand folks who'd probably double check for you.
