The Bicycling thread

I learned an interesting thing about bicycling and motorcycling insofar as older males are concerned. These activities can give rise to elevated PSA results, which are also a marker of prostate problems (e.g., cancer). Well I like both bicycles and motorcycles but will get the MRI to make certain that elevated PSA results are not an indicator of something else. The urologist and I have agreed to wait until winter to check again and I'll suspend riding the bicycle and motorcycle for a period of time before the next PSA check to see if results are back in the normal range.

Yesterday I did the Butternut Valley Gravel Grinder, out near Oneonta, NY.

It was about 50 miles with 6,200' of climbing.

It was hard.

Any tandem bike riders in this Forum? If so, will you be attending the Midwest Tandem Rally this weekend, in Westfield, IN? (NW of Indianapolis). My wife and I will be attending our 41st(?) MTR this year, and would love to meet more MOA members who might be tandem riders in attendance.

Just took the e-bike plunge today. A Trek FX 1S for me, and an Electra Townie Go S for my wife. Pick mine up next week, had to order hers, hopefully get it in 2-3 weeks.

We've rented some in the past and had fun...really looking forward to playing with them. Both are class 3 with a throttle. I'll be the one making "vroom, vroom" noises.

Not a tandem rider, but yes I am impressed that you have attended for going on your 41st year!

And I know what they say about tandems and marriage...congrats on being on the success side!

Continuing to ride 100+ miles per week since the end of ski season in late March.

Yesterday I took the mountain bike out on the very local dirt roads to try and beat the rain, just a dozen miles and about 1,500' of climbing. The rain started just as I was finishing up.

The day started with a fantastic sunrise glow over the pond at about 5 am, was gone within ten minutes.

Pretty cold out again, around 50 degrees, despite having temps around 90 degrees in the past week.

Lettuce coming in and sixteen tomato plants in the ground, half of them heirlooms.

I built a small deck down at the pond. I made the Adirondack chairs about 35 years ago.

@ SPP:
Way to go, Pete! If U did 50 miles on gravel on a street bike, I bet it Was Indeed an uphill struggle! Congrats on your successful completion. Bet that Burger & Beer was fargin DELICIOUS!

Just sayin, we’ve recently discovered Bikes & Boats {in Europe}. Our first two tours were on rented peddle bicycles; which was perfectly doable on two relatively horizontal Danube & Elbe River jaunts. We recently greatly enjoyed a Santana ADVenture cruise up the coast of Norway exploring four impressive fjords {during the World Cup} - this time on rented eBikes. :thumb https://santanaadventures.com

Keep up the good workouts on your bicycle explorations. Congrats on your healthy enthusiasm! We’ll be spending more time in the future with Santana - we had that much fun! We’ve reached that point in our lives where it’s time to stop saving and start spending.... :nod

We’ll be leading the MOAL 2nd Saturday Ride-2-Eat to the Pikeville Store {and grill} to rendezvous there @1100.... It’s still a big part of our month-to-month experience.

Enjoy what remains of Summer of 2026!
Happy Trails whenever U can!
