JAMES, Edmund, III Edmund (Eddie) Clarence James III Edmund (Eddie) Clarence James III was tragically killed Sunday evening, Dec. 6th. He was 46. Originally from Minneapolis, MN, he had made Atlanta home for the last year. Eddie was a passionate motorcyclist who helped pioneer long distance riding since the early 90's. In 1984 he founded TeamStrange Airheads which has evolved into one of the leading long distance riding organizations in the nation. Eddie was a regular participant in the Iron Butt Rally's - the premier long distance riding event. He was typically a top 10 finisher. His contributions to this sport were enormous and his absence will be truly felt by everyone in this community who knew him or knew of him. Eddie's career always followed his love of motorcycling. His early years were spent working in several Minneapolis/St. Paul motorcycle dealerships. In 1998 he accepted his "dream job" as the National Road Riding Director for the American Motorcyclist Association in Pickerington, Ohio. In 2006 he joined The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation "Ride For Kids" as a National Ride Manager. He has recently been enjoying early retirement which gave him all the time he wanted to ride across the country several times this year and work as the Rally Master for the upcoming Iron Butt 5000. Eddie is survived by his fianc?®e, Lisa Erbes of Atlanta; Michael James, David McMurray, Jonathan Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Aura Lee Carpenter, Amy Carpenter, Joanne Kochheiser and Terri James (deceased). A memorial service celebrating Eddie's life will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, December 12, 2009, at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, GA, 30328; (404) 851-9900. Great guy who showed many of some great roads

What a sad situation.

Eddie was a BMW rider who had a love for long distance riding and the open road. He introduced me to the Minnesota 1,000 and it was a life changing experience. Like Cortes burning the ships on the beach you knew you weren't going back. Not after having this much fun. I would run into Eddie in various parts of the country at a rally, Daytona, BMW National or far flung places like Niobarara, Nebraska. He was always working on another project and it in most cases involved riding.

He had an eye for mischief in setting bonus locations. Such as the historical marker in downtown Duluth strategically located on the other side of the cordoned off and guarded finish chute for Grandma's Marathon with some 25,000 contestants. He loved to say reading comprehension will be rewarded.

He and the love of his life, Lisa, were making wedding plans and this whole situation is so sad. He leaves behind an extremely large group of riders and friends that will miss him very much.

Here are few postings from his friends.

Such kind words from the Team Strange forums.

This is very sad news indeed for all of us, and acutely so for the LDR community.
