Riding Music or Music that Gets You Pulled Over:

well, here it is, another music question.

so i know you got em, cd's mp3's portable 12V record players, 8 tracks, mini discs the ill-fated digital compact cassette, anyway what are some albums that get you totally pumped when you're riding, like the ones that make you stop paying attention to that little thing with the numbers and the dial on your dash, the ones that make every car think you're waving at them cause you're drumming so fast w/your left hand, you know, that kind of nonesense

or does that never happen to you??

anyway,

Misfists - Earth AD

Iron Maiden - Power Slave

Leeway/Killing Time/Judge - basically any late 80s NY hardcore that i'm sure no one's heard of

and i'm sorry to say, but the only time i listen to this stuff is on long rides by myself, but trancey-dancey sorta housey-vocaley english stuff like paul oakenfold and john digweed, this stuff's dangerous cause you sorta loose track of things if the mix is real good and there's no pauses.............

I really like John Denver when I'm riding the northwoods in the fall.

for long "i just gotta get somewhere" rides its hard to beat any Phillip Glass album. you can never really tell how long you've been riding. its easy to forget most anything while listening to his stuff. him or steven reich.

i get in trouble if i listen to any hard metal stuff, but i still do at times.

Pixies, Trompe Le Monde
Pixies, Bossanova
Pixies, Dolittle
Pixies, Surfer Rosa

Yes! In February of '03 BMWRTGIRL and I took a fourwheeled roadtrip to Duluth and the Aerostich Riders Wearhouse. On the way up we got pulled over around Eau Claire, WI while listening to No Doubt cranked up REALLY loud. Heh. Let's just say that we didn't hear the siren and that he was behind us for a while!

Right now my current favorite for rocking out on the bike is Green Day's 'American Idiot'

All-time rocking out favorites are White Zombie, Wyclef Jean, Smashing Pumpkins, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Beastie Boys, Ratatat, The Pixies, and Outkast.

The Pixies?

I knew there was something I liked about you boxergrrlie. :)

hahaa, what was that line from the simpsons when the entire audience and the symphony ran out of the concert hall in unison "wait, where are you all going, next up is a 6 hour minimalist experimental piece by phillip glass"

Last time I got pulled over I was rocking out to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Album?

You must be an old timer who else would use the term "Album" I wonder if my turntabke would fit in my topcase.

:stick

TiMG - doing his mix of Jay-Z and Hendrix. Hendrix is laying down the ripping guitar in the back and JayZ is talking about how he's got "99 problems, but the bitch ain't one."

Makes me do nutty things every time it appears on the iPod when I'm riding.

Also, "**** List" by L7 does it too, as do any of my Black Flag or Cypress Hill tunes.

Oh yeah, most Public Enemy does that to me too. And those Yeah, yeah, yeahs tunes Chacifer sent me too.

Call me Mr. Uncontrollable Urge.

nope, just a 25 yr old with about 5X the number of records as cds

also, kbasa, once you're done making the website amazing check out "in my head" by black flag, its their last album, you can tell greg ginn is completely stonned through the entire recording, it sounds like nothing else they ever released, super noodley guitars and really weird and overly dramatic lyrics courtesey of a "very sick of the band" rollins................

riding my stolen moped I like to groove on the Corrs, Aha, the Carpenters and when the throttle is wide open the 1910 Fruit Gum Company. Rock on!

After the Gold Rush - Neil Young
Black Album - Metallica
As Far As Siam - Red Ryder
Abraxas - Santana
The older "theme" albums by the Moody Blues
Pink Floyd
...and a host of others

One of my profs down here was in the premiere and first run of Einstein on the Beach, and said that it was just crazy to have to sing. She got to meet Philip Glass as well and was told by him that he composed that piece for an audience to be able to just show up when they wanted to, and leave when they wanted to, not for them to sit and watch all 6 hours at once.

Little Feat-Fat Man in the Bathtub
Lou Reed- Rock and Roll Animal
Stones- Street Fighting Man
The Dead- Wharf Rat /Not Fade Away
The Floyd- just about all

I don't listen to music when I ride, but I may start. I suspect that I'll gravitate towards the funkier end of the jazz/fusion spectrum: John Scofield, Medeski Martin & Wood, and that kind of stuff.

Smashmouth - Fush Yu Mang
Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies - magnolia
Little Feat - Let it Roll
Reverend Horton Heat - Liquor in the front
Royal Crown Review - Mugzys move
Bottle Rockets - The brooklyn side
Doobie Brothers - Tolouse Street

these can make a man go maybe faster than the posted limit.

80's Power Rock

I Remember You-Skid Row
Dr. Feelgood-Motley Crue
Any Def Leopard
Lita Ford
Queen is fun.

Knock on wood...haven't been pulled over on the bike. But you can usually roll up to 80 around here and never get in trouble. If you do get yanked....toss a PBA or FOP card out and your golden. One time I got pulled over on the highway 83/65. He pulled me over for riding the left lane. Didn't care about my speed. Gave me a warning. Also around here....80=65. Nobody does the speed limit. 80 is right lane speed. People in the left lane usually do 80+++.

At the national....

I was getting gas in Lima this year and had Dr. Feelgood going....got a few Air guitars from others who were pumping gas.
