Restoration of Craven Golden Arrow Panniers?

jbf

New member
Does anyone have experience with restoring craven fiberglass panniers? Wanting to restore this pair for my R75/5 (1971).

I have a pair in pretty good condition that i want to get in tip-top shape. Mostly things like replacing weather stripping, fixing a few cracks, and sanding re painting them.

I dont know a thing about working with fiberglass, etc.

Cheers,

Jonathan

I can walk you through the basics of fiberglass repair, but do you have any experience with body fillers, primer/surfacers, and automotive painting, other than with a rattle can?

Hey Lew! I'll be honest, I havnt really had any experience with body fillers, primer/surfacers at all.

That being said, if I took the time to learn I'm sure I'd do it good. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined individual. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I like to do things the right way.

Jonathan, I'll get back to this this evening with specific materials, tools, etc. But in the meantime, to familiarize you with the subject, here are two pretty good YouTube vids on the subject; at the end of each video there will be links to similar presentations.

30 minute fiberglass basics > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zka0i0SOGd8

Basic bondo use > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aou3Q-26FfM

If you could post a few shot of your project it would be helpful to everyone else as well.
