Optimate4 battery charger

I purchased an Optimate4 battery charger from Motobins, and a battery from EuroMotoelectrics. The manual says the charger works for Lithium Ferrous Phosphate batteries and Can-bus systems. From the manual, I gather that their Program4 is the appropriate selection out of the four choices. This allows you to use the cigarette lighter (accessory plug) outlet on the bike. Is this correct? Does anyone have advice or experience using this particular charger?

Is it this one? If so, yes, you can charge from the accessory plug on the bike. You just set the charger for lithium and turn the canbus option on. It remembers your settings between uses so from then on you can just visually check that it's on the correct program when you plug it in.

Here are the lithium and canbus indicator lights circled:

I can vouch for this charger being confusing. :hungover
I can also suggest that a direct connection via a “pigtail”to the battery is less problematic.

Yeah..it sure does have a lot of lights and options compared to my Battery Tenders. One thing I will point out that is kind of annoying if you use the canbus mode with the accessory plug is that at some point during the various charging cycles and other canbus voodoo it does under the hood it will power up my electronics that are attached to the nav cradle (on my R1300GS anyway - I have not used it on my other bikes since those have pigtails on the battery and use Battery Tenders). In my case it is a Chigee AIO-5 BMW. Not the end of the world, but annoying when my phone starts making noises and I notice it has connected to the bike via Android Auto. It does power back down pretty quickly so it's only an occasional blip and would be easily solved by just removing the Chigee from the nav cradle when the bike is sitting in the garage on the tender.

I made a mistake, apparently the battery I got from Euro is an AGM. Isn't this a lead-acid model, and therefore Program 2 should be selected if you want to use the plug-in option of the Optimate4?

I forget the program numbers, but you are correct - you want the "Pb" light illuminated instead of the "LFP" light if you are charging a lead acid battery.
