New Member - New 1200GS - Needs To Know Correct Break-in Procedure

Good evening, all;
Picking up my new 1200GS in El Paso and bringing her back to Houston. My concern is to make sure I do a proper break-in. You pretty much have a long steady run out of ELP, so varying speed is challenging. I am a new rider and will go to Dell City TX for gas, Carlsbad NM for the night, then to Pecos TX for gas, then Odessa for the night. If I feel good I may roll on. But, these are all hours of highway riding, not to my knowledge good for a break-in. Your advice is welcome, and thank you in advance! Cheers! Stu

You can vary your speed up and down a bit in any gear, and can use two or three different gears too. It is more bothersome riding than droning along on those straight roads, but you have lots of ability to ride and still vary the rpm a lot.

Welcome Aboard!

Welcome to the club and the forum - I agree with Paul, who is substantially smarter than me, use different gears at the same MPH to vary the RPM's and change your speeds.

Thanks for being a member!

The manual says the running in check should be performed between 300 and 750 miles. I would say you're good after the first service.
