I might have an answer, or not. I think the Nav IV is a variant of the Garmin Zumo 660. If that is correct then GPS City can help.

Garmin puts a small magnet near the fixing screw in the battery door to be able to sense if the door has been installed. It should be easy to find the sweet spot by sliding a small rare earth magnet around face up and face down on the back side of the Garmin where the battery door attaches. Then you can use duct tape to weather proof the back.
