Motul V300 10W40 vs BMW 5W40

I have 5 quarts Motul V300 (Road) 10W40 and my 600 mile (Break in) is about due... Anyone see any reason why someone living in a warmer climate (Peninsula, Bay Area) can't just use that over the BMW labeled Castrol 5W40? Afterall from what I remember, the first number is just cold weather related and both are overkill for the weather here where it never dips into freezing much less 0F? The number that really matters for my climate is the second number (40), right?

I also noticed the older manual I found for the k1600 (online) specifies 10W40 oddly, whereas the newer manual that came with the bike is now 5W40... In either case, it says BMW "recommends" castrol 10w40.. not requires it.. what do you all think?

I use Castrol 10w-40 Power RS 4T with no issues.
As a matter of fact, it shifts alot smoother.

You'll be find with the Motul, and fwiw BMW labeled oil is no longer Castrol but rather (made in Germany) Shell.

Don't forget the final drive. That gets changed too, and needs to be changed again at the next service. The final oil looks really ugly at the 600 mile service, the 3500 mile not so bad but still a good idea. IMHO much of the final failure is due to not changing the oil often enough. 180cc's of oil isn't much. It also means pulling the rear tire to do it. Also think about the warranty, no service record no warranty. Now that mine's out of warranty I'll be doing the 10-40 :scratch

Motul 300V 10W40 is what I used a few times. It's a high quality synthetic and you can't go wrong using it.
