Taylor and Ferreira earn podiums at rounds 4 and 5 Thunder race

Whitby. The BMW Motorrad Canada racing team was pleased to record three podium positions in rounds 4 and 5 of last weekend’s Parts Canada Superbike Championship Canadian Thunder Series, held at Mosport International Raceway on July 14 and 15.
With heavy rain on Saturday turning the already challenging Mosport track into a slippery playground, Mike Taylor dominated the Round 4 Canadian Thunder race from the start, riding his factory BMW R1200S to a 1st place finish with a margin of some 30 seconds over the 2nd place Buell XB9R of Darren James. Taylor’s teammate, Mike Ferreira also rode a spectacular race, charging from eighth place, narrowly missing a downed Ducati which fell in front of him, to finish 3rd – hot on the heels of James.

Sunday was briefly blessed with a dry track – at least long enough for the Round 5 Thunder race, which proved to be as entertaining as the previous day’s dance in the rain. Virtually every lap of the hard-fought race saw a change in the leaderboard, with Taylor and Ferriera on their BMW R1200Ss and Darren James and Michael Leon on their Buell XB9Rs continually swapping positions. The exhilarating nose-to-tail contest concluded with Leon’s and James’ Buells securing 1st and 2nd places and Ferreira and Taylor finishing 3rd and 4th respectively.

The Canadian Thunder series heads next to the Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia on August 9-12, with Mike Taylor a very close second to Buell’s Michael Leon series-leading points standing, and Michael Ferreira holding down 7th place.

First ever BMW Motorrad Summerfest

As an unprecedented backdrop for the Parts Canada Superbike Championship series at Mosport, the inaugural BMW Motorrad Summerfest opened on Friday, July 13, providing this weekend’s enthusiastic spectators with an impressive array BMW activities, products and entertainment. With some 500,000 square feet of tarmac laid out to showcase the full range of BMW motorcycles, BMW Retailer booths and a large BMW Rider Gear boutique, each day’s attendees were given the opportunity to view and even roadtest every new model of BMW motorcycle – both onroad and off-road. Over 500 riders took advantage of the BMW demonstration rides.

One of the highlights of BMW Motorrad Summerfest was the entertainment provided by 2006 Stuntwars Freestyle World Champion, BMW’s own Christian Pfeiffer. Having flown in from Germany to attend Summerfest, Chris demonstrated why he was World Champion, bringing wide grins to the faces of every one of the almost-disbelieving motorcycle crowd, as he performed an uncanny, some say “impossible” series of stunts on his BMW F800.

BMW Motorrad Summerfest, in cooperation with sponsor Sirius Satellite Radio, further complemented the excitement and entertainment of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship race weekend with a Saturday evening concert headlining EDWIN, formerly of the group “I Mother Earth”, and local bands, Duty Calls and Afternoon Zero.

BMW Motorrad Summerfest was inspired by the popular BMW Motorrad Biker Meeting, renamed BMW Motorrad Days this year and held for the last six years in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. The popular German event, held just the previous week, attracted in excess of 34,000 enthusiasts from around the world.

Giving a wide range of motorcycle racing enthusiasts a glimpse at the increasingly wide world of BMW Motorrad, the success of this first BMW Motorrad Summerfest bodes well for a return in 2008.

FIRST CUSTOMER PHANTOM DROPHEAD COUP?ëS LEAVE GOODWOOD

The first customer Phantom Drophead Coup?®s have today left the company’s head office and manufacturing plant at Goodwood. The five cars are destined for customers around the world.
Each car is hand-built to specific requirements and features individual wood veneer, leather and paint finish choices. The first five customers have also specified the optional steel bonnet and rear teak deck. The bonnet is machine brushed before being hand finished to ensure a uniform grain throughout. The deck is made up of separate solid teak slats, hand sanded and waxed to give a ‘just cut’ finish.

The two-door, four-seat convertible is a less formal interpretation of classic Rolls-Royce design than its four-door stable mate, the Phantom. Using the lightweight rigidity of an all-aluminium spaceframe, it marries modern technology to a sleek, streamlined convertible body. Hand-built using the finest quality materials to the exacting standards of Rolls-Royce, the new Phantom Drophead Coup?® is attracting new and existing Rolls-Royce customers world-wide.

Ian Robertson, Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said, “The reaction to the Phantom Drophead Coup?® from customers, the media and enthusiasts around the world has been phenomenal. We are delighted that the first cars are being delivered to customers and we are now in full production to meet demand. The passion and dedication that our workforce has shown in delivering this new model has been inspiring.“

ROLLS-ROYCE CELEBRATES OPENING OF BEIJING SHOWROOM

A new Rolls-Royce showroom was officially opened today in Beijing by Mr. Colin Kelly, the Asia Pacific Regional Director of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. This is one of five Rolls-Royce showrooms in Greater China.
The new showroom is located at The Regent Hotel, Beijing on Jinbao street, in the city’s commercial district. The spacious showroom combines traditional and modern design, reflecting Rolls-Royce brand values. A special customer room provides an exquisite and private environment for the brand’s prestigious customers.

Mr Kelly said, “We are delighted to open this outstanding new showroom in Beijing.
Since our first deliveries to China in 2003, sales have grown consistently and in 2006 grew by more than 60 per cent compared to 2005. This made China the region our third largest market in the world for Rolls-Royce, behind the USA and the UK. We anticipate further growth in China this year and beyond and expect to open more showrooms in the coming months.”
The other showrooms in Greater China are located in Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Mr Kelly unveiled the new Phantom Drophead Coup?® at the opening, the first time the new convertible has been shown in Beijing. Also attending the ceremony were the Director of Trade and Investment for China at the British Embassy Beijing, Mr Alastair Morgan, and the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars General Manager for Greater China, Ms Jenny Zheng.

In 2007, Rolls-Royce will have a three model line-up, with the new convertible set to join the two four-door models in China in the 4th quarter of 2007. The Phantom remains the best-selling super luxury car in the world, with sales in 2006 at a 16-year-high. A new Rolls-Royce model, priced slightly below the Phantom, will be launched around the turn of the decade.

ROLLS-ROYCE OPENS FOR BUSINESS IN DRESDEN

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has today opened a new showroom in Dresden, Saxony/Germany. The authorized dealer Thomas Exclusive Cars GmbH, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dresden, celebrated the opening of its new facilities in Radebeul near Dresden, by unveiling the new Phantom Drophead Coup?®. This latest Rolls-Royce model was making its official German debut, following motor show appearances at Detroit and Geneva.
Sibylle Thomas-G?Âbelbecker, dealer principal of Thomas Exclusive Cars said, “We are proud to represent the most luxurious automotive brand here in Saxony - and we are pleased to host the German debut of the new Rolls-Royce convertible.”

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Managing Director for Europe and the Middle East, Axel Oberm??ller, said, “We see Dresden as an ideal location for the extension of our European dealer network, based on the fact that Germany is our strongest market in Continental Europe. Our experience here over the past months has proven that Saxony is not only founded on a strong history in terms of culture and cars but as well on a remarkable business development.”

In Continental Europe there are now 19 Rolls-Royce showrooms.
This year the brand will have a three model line-up, as the new Drophead Coup?® joins the Phantom and Phantom Extended Wheelbase. First deliveries of the Phantom Drophead Coup?® to German customers will start in August.

BMW Oracle takes Alinghi to court over America's Cup
Sat 21 Jul 2007, 14:25 GMT

By Jane Barrett

MADRID (Reuters) - BMW Oracle's yacht club has taken Alinghi's club to court, claiming the Swiss syndicate have accepted an ineligible challenger for the next America's Cup and are seeking an unfair advantage over their rivals.

The Golden Gate Yacht Club said it filed a lawsuit against Societe Nautique de Geneve (SNG) in New York on Friday after Alinghi ignored an informal complaint from the U.S. team.
