MOA Getaway - Fontana, North Carolina -- April 25-27, 2025

I don't know how a rider & pillion justify the total expenditure for two nights at this Getaway.
The lodging rate, for the location and the property itself, may be within reason.
At $189 in the Lodge, with tax/fees that may equal $400. Add on the two $149 ($298) registration fees and
maybe $100 for total fuel & food going & coming from home Friday/Sunday. That's a quick $750 (plus) weekend.

I travel about 8-10 days in the summer, by camping, on that money. Eating well and burning mostly hi-test gas.
Until about four years ago... it was half a month!

Question is; did MOA Getaway folks stop traveling and just decide to splurge on a couple weekend events annually?

I made a small error in the quotes. It was $189 for the lodge, but $134 for the garden (not $143, sorry). I booked for the garden, so we will be going. I know this area was greatly affected by the storms, but we had a really great time there last year so we are going again.

We are not campers so hotels are our only real option

I was wondering if there's any way the ride routes could be added back to the event page. Since the recent website update, the ride route details for Fontana seem to be missing.

Also, are there any recent updates on the condition of the area? Earlier posts and another thread mentioned storm damage, and I just wanted to check if anything has changed or been repaired since then.

Thanks so much!

Very little damage in that area.

It’s called “inflation” folks. It happens year after year, in corporations (Performance reports) and across the economy... This go-round, we stayed in “the Lodge” for the very first time {usually in other random connected cabins}. Because they’ve relocated “the front desk” down beside the country store/P.O., you gain absolutely nothin. The Lodge’s restaurant is currently closed due to staff unavailability. Everyone ate at/drank beside the ‘olde Dam’s childrens’ school-house’ down in the mid-level property grounds. Food was tasty & plentiful; Happy Hour drinks were ordinary & expensive! Our B’day reservation was arranged to arrive via BMWs on Thursday - the weather was above-average ugly! Friday, we did not ride as our clothing dried. Saturday was A-Okay as we rode west on the Cherohala Skyway {in 5K’ fog-bank}. Enjoyed BBQ & a burger @ Iron Works Grille in Tellico Plains with comfortable weather & lunch beside the Tellico River. The rangers had opened up the near-river dirt track [as I had stopped to put on my raincoat in NC]. You can choose to go elsewhere (KY gathering), or U can chose to attend a now-upgraded depression-era CCC Lodge. We, Team-HSV, had an enjoyable “MOA Getaway.” Our 2025 MOA Rally-Chairs, Vance & Mari, put on YET ANOTHER, accommodating excuse to rendezvous! We, Team-HSV, came through the famed Dragon on our way east thru Tennessee to Fontana. It was the slowest passage I've ever encountered, but we arrived safely {and soaking wet}. From there, there was No where else to go but Up! Enjoy your chosen MOA events as best U can....
Here’s the view from the lodge on Friday. The Old (circa 1955) pool is now under Astro-Turf. There is another “family pool” located further down-hill... Incidentally, it was mentioned that the MOA will establish Member-Discounts throughout the year at the Fontana Village {see a future MOA-ON edition} should U want to Tackle The Dragon [many times]... We did each receive a well-filled SWAG-Bag upon checking-in at the MOA Getaway. Those folks who ‘hesitated,’ lost out.... For a Sat door-prize drawing, my ticket was worth the price of admission. HE received a soft and supple KLIM-MOA long-sleeve dress shirt in an Army camo-green colour. Mrs-HSV was chosen to receive a $23-priced “laser-etched” MOA coffee mug & a biggly LARGE MOA sticker (20”x6”) car-window advertisement... Hey, any door-prize drawing win is Better Than Nuttin!!! Get out there and mingle Guys {und Gals}! At my age, I’m appreciating that, You can’t take it with U! We enjoyed our 2025 visit to the Fontana Lodge!
