Hey all, this came through the BMW MOA Facebook page. If you are going to be passing through routes that touch the general search area, please keep an eye out for a 2024 red/white/blue GS that might be off the roadway or on an off-highway route.

From the FB post:
Missing rider.
My friend Bill Knight hasn’t been heard from in several days. He is on a new BMW GS, red, white and blue. Last we heard he was in Lewiston Idaho early Wednesday morning and is in route to San Ramon, California.
He’s an excellent, experienced, rider who generally keeps in touch daily. He was well equipped with new phone, new tires, etc.
He has been reported by his relative as MISSING to law enforcement.
Please keep an eye out for Bill. It’s a complete mystery right now.
I’m very worried about my friend.
Anyone sees him make the call.

Update...

LATEST UPDATE: Law Enforcement in looking in the area in Alturas California after tracing a cell ping to that area. Bill will sometimes ride a dirt road rather than major highways. Keep an eye out if you are in Northern California. The search is on.
East of the red dot....is the area.

Authorities confirm the overdue rider from Oregon who was on his way to Gaeagle has been found dead.

William Knight’s body was recovered in the river 4 miles south of Alturas near Highway 395, according to the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office.

The 73-year-old from San Ramon was reported missing to the San Ramon Police Department on Sunday, June 2nd, after his family lost communication with him on Thursday, May 30th. Knight was on a motorcycle trip to Idaho, last making contact in Lakeview. He was expected to return home on the 1st.

Authorities say after pinging Knight’s cell phone, his location placed him near Alturas, where deputies began their search Monday. Around 6 pm the next day, a driver along the highway called 911, reporting a body lying in the river. The SO confirmed it was the remains of William Knight. His motorcycle was later found in the river not far from where his body was found.

An investigation into the death is underway by the Modoc SO while CHP investigates the accident leading to Knight’s demise.

So sorry to hear of Williams passing. I had a near death experience last September. My first trip since then was traveling down and back to the recent 49’er Rally in Mariposa. Both ways, I traveled this route, Burns, OR, to Minden, NV, on US395, arriving home last Tuesday. Most of my miles are traveling solo. This is one of the drawbacks of our traveling solo: going missing. Comfort and peace to his family.
