... Matthew is out of commission. I was back east and he was telling me on the phone that he had the flu. I arrived home last Saturday night to a very sick man - high fever, chills, sweats, vomiting. We went to the ER on Wednesday morning and they immediatley admitted him. He has no kidney function, his body is full of infection, including ecoli in his blood stream. Today was the first day his blood tests showed any improvement - though very, very slight. We think it started on the trip to California and back. He got dehydrated and wasn't urinating enough. He has nerve damage from his accident and doesn't always know he has to go. Whatever, he's very ill and lying in a hospital bed looking sad. The ultimate prognosis should be recovery but the doc said if he'd waited another day or two he probably wouldn't be here.

And thus our exciting lives just keep going.

Good health, Matt!!

Sorry to hear about MattÔÇÖs medical problems. I hope the medical staff get him back on his feet quickly with no lingering aftereffects. That trip to Europe draws closer by the day and those identical venerable /5ÔÇÖs have to be ready for the trip.

Matt was a big help to me by e-mail and snail mail a couple of months ago regarding a few gasket and lamp problems I had with my own venerable /5. Thanks for your assistance, Matt!

Get well soon.and watch out for this guy!!

Get Well Matt,

you saved my butt when i stripped the spark plug thread on my airhead while in colorado springs last october!

Get well soon, and keep the articles coming. You're an inspiration to me and my /5s. Can't wait to see/hear/read about the "/5s do Europe" trip. :wave

Sorry to hear. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery.

Like many here he has been very helpful to me also.

Matt is an incredible person and a great resource to the Airhead and BMW community. Our hopes and prayers are with him.

Kent,
Please keep us posted on any updates.

Hello All, Matt here......
I have been VERY ill AND our computer went down....
We now have a new computer so here's what happened.
Basically I suffered total kidney failure. This was compounded by a serious
infection of e-coli and staph, in the bloodstream and my kidneys. This was
probably brought on by dehydration and urinary retention, due to my spinal
injury of nine years ago. It probably started "cooking" as we rode to the
49er Rally over Memorial Day. I didn't feel "right" after returning home. but
not bad enough to seek help. After a worsening few days, I went to the ER
and was promptly admitted for what turned out to be an 8 day stay. They
told me I might have died if I'd delayed much longer....
I've been home for close to a week now and am still very ill. I've got
two doctor's appointments today so hopefully, I'll have some idea of what
the furture holds. One big question is how vulnerable am I to future problems of this nature.
I turn 55 in a couple weeks and I can't help but wonder if the days of turning wrenches on a regular basis in an un-air-conditioned shop should come to
an end.....
Don't know at this time about various Rallies this summer. I'm hoping to be
at the Top o' the Rockies but won't be doing the usual vending and working
on folks bikes that I usually do. Susanna want me to fly with her to the
National in Lima. She HAS to fly due to time constraints, we will see if I have
the strength to do that - right now I clearly do not.....
I REALLY appreciate the several emails I received from folks on the List
-
"Thoughts and prayers" DO help!
Thanks!
Matt Parkhouse
