Luftmeister Auxiliary Tank Lines

Luftmeister Auxiliary Tank Setup

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of these tanks? Since its all gravity fed, the line must flow downhill. I'm wondering about venting with such a small aluminum tank. I just bought a set, they hold about a gallon each. Looks like they get in the way of the passenger foot pegs...not that I trust myself with someone else's life or anything... :brow

The tanks are vented, and have ExploSafe (looks like tinsel for a Xmas tree) in them as anti-slosh, etc. I did a schematic (ok a diagram) based on Snowbum's explanation ( http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/luftmstrtanks.htm ), but moved the vented lines from the tanks to in front of an inline filter (in case the tinsel escapes).

I need to replace the petcocks on both of them, because I can't get them apart to rebuild.

I used these tanks quite often in the '80's when I did most of my touring. I never hooked them up to the fuel lines. They were only used for emergency fuel. I had camping equipment with me when I toured and always carried an aluminum fuel can for my camp stove & lamp, and used this to transport any fuel to bike or equipment. I remember coming across a stranded Harley rider once who had run out of gas. I pulled over to help him out and when he told me he was empty I asked him if he wanted high test or regular, since I had both with the tanks. Should of seen the look on his face.........priceless!!!!!
