K1100LT Fuel injection noise

Hello,

I was curious to know how loud the fuel injectors can be on a 93 K1100LT. I hear a ticking sound and it appears to be coming from the injectors. I want to be sure that its not the valves making the ticking noise.
The bike has 16,500 miles on it and I had the injectors cleaned and rebuilt when I purchased it and got it running, so not knowing what is sounded like prior to it running I want to determine that its just that and nothing ore serious. The ticking does't sound faster or louder under acceleration, which leads me to believe that its the injectors. I do recall on older cars and bikes from the 90s that injectors can be quiet loud.
At 16,500 it could be due for a valve adjustment anyway.

Thanks

I have not known Kbike injectors to be loud enough to hear over all the other noises the bikes make.

Injector noise (if any) should speed up as rpm increases.

Some sources of ticking or rattle like noises:

Fuel pump
Timing chain
Alternator drive rubbers (monkey nuts)
Valves (but they usually get tighter)
Detonation (pinging)
K1100s, I believe, had problems with exhaust cracks
Loose or cracked heat shield on exhaust
Loose bodywork. Especially grills

Rcapone28,

Put a stethascope on it to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. You can make-do with any wood dowel or steel rod. Sometimes I'll pick up one of the wife's flower holder-uppers (24-36" x 1/8" dia steel rod with a loop on one end). Broom handles, dowels, screwdrivers work well, too. Put one end on the suspect bearing or injector and press the other end onto the little skin flap in front of your ear canal. You can even pick out individual tappets by listening on the valve cover. Try to not let the rod/dowel touch anything else on the engine to isolate where the sound is coming from. It's interesting to listen to the various bearings. You can really pick out a bad bearing (i.e. idler pulley or water pump) easily.

Both the OEM and replacement EV14 injectors on my R1100S are very quiet. You can feel them click with fingers but can't hear them (without a steth) above all the other noises even when just idling. I think you have something else making the click.
