July 19, 2024 Microsoft outage-

You have got to be kidding!

CrowdStrike offers a $10 apology gift card to say sorry for outage

I think if any of the companies that had to pay a real penalty for mess-ups, they would be out of business…………not sure if it would be a bad thing. :dunno
OTOH, I don’t know if another company would be able to step in to take there place? I have a feeling that CrowdStrike is so deeply embedded there is little hope of implementing another company.
It could be like a Public Utility when there is a failure- and outrage and fines, it’s really the public that pays the fines with increased rates?
I smell https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch-22_(logic).

"Despite having caused one of the largest global technology meltdowns ever, resulting in billions of dollars in losses for its customers, CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. itself should largely be shielded from direct financial impacts.

That’s due in part to the software industry’s licensing structure, through which standard software licenses limit the liability of the software developer, and because of insurance held both CrowdStrike and its customers."
