Is it normal for my shifter to be this loose?

Hi all,

This bike is new to me. It's a 2015 R1200RT. I notice the shift lever is loose, but am not sure if this is normal. And if not, how to tighten it up (is there a bushing that fails?).

Thanks
Mark

I'm sure others will have better ideas. But this image shows the main lever along with the attachments to get to the mechanism on the transmission.

All I see is #8 and 9. #8 is a screw...would it be possible to get to the other side and see if it tightens up? I don't see how all the other pieces contribute to the shifter lever itself.
I wonder if there's a bushing that #8 goes into (which would be in the bracket that holds the foot peg)?

While I have no real experience with the 2015 RT, that does seem a bit loose to me. The parts fiche did not indicate a bushing inside of the lever. However, they parts fiche does indicate a shim between the lever and the frame. Perhaps you're missing the shim. It might be a good idea to take things apart and inspect.

Here's a quick update. I reached out to the dealership who I bought the bike from last week. I texted a video to the guy I dealt with, and he texted back that he walked over to a 2024 R1250RT and the shift lever behaved the same. This may just be me not being familiar with my new bike.
