I bought an '08 R1200RT!?!

r0ckrat

MOA #221145
Wife spotted a bike on the shoulder of the road, and sent pictures. Lucky me, right?

It's a champagne gold '08 RT, about 110k miles, had a recent driveshaft replacement, and was a trade-in for a newer bike at a local dealer. Torn seat under a mesh-like cover (wind rider or similar). 2-owner, second owner has had it for since 18k miles. No luggage in the photos, probably not included. Seller is a recycler that picked it up on auction. Has clean title and current tags.

Asking price is $1750, he stated he needs $1200...

Going to go test ride it tomorrow - what would be red flag items that would kill a deal like this?

Bought it.
Has side bags, one of which is fubar (opened and came off while under way according to PO), but might be repairable for less than a new bag.
Not sure about fuel strip, but I need to get the LCD portion of the dash working to tell.
Has a leaky fork tube.
Needs a new o-ring for one valve cover around the central spark plug hole. (So will do a valve clearance check on both and replace seals)
It's dirty, yes... More than just wheels.
Needs one bulb out of two in the rear taillight. All other bulbs good.
Headlight REALLY needs a good polishing...
Need to rebuild/recover/replace seats.

So it's going to be a summer toy and bit of a project bike. Runs great though. For the price I should get a few miles of smiles virtually for free if I sell it next spring.

It is low, ordered one on ebay for a reasonable price. But not low...

Just had a look at mine; I labeled it "low" when I got it and it has the PN 0632-7-681 684 molded into the pan. I'd guess that the regular seat you ordered uses a different pan; let me know what your pan PNs are when you have a chance.
