Itinerant Traveler
The annual Horizons Unlimited Virginia Travellers Meeting (HU VA) is open for registration! We'll once again gather near historic and scenic Appomattox, Virginia on April 24-27, 2025, for a weekend of info and inspiration about overland travel, including presentations by people who have been just about everywhere, plus available off-road training from Tom Asher! Presenters are signing up and it looks like another great weekend ahead.

Get all the details, including accommodations, meal plans, and presenter info (so far -- many more to come) at: www.horizonsunlimited.com/virginia. For questions not answered on the web page, drop me a note at steve@horizonsunlimited.com. Hope to see you there!

Well this went well.
Zero replies or commentary…
before or after the affair. Sad.
I know they worked me over a couple years back on the Newfoundland multi year gaggle of yes no yes event.
By looking at their web site, and forum, my impression … it’s not going well for anyone.

Just adding my 2 cents, FlyHi; it was “kinda” wet in the east during that timeframe. We got soaked riding east through Deals Gap to visit the Fontana MOA Getaway on Thursday PM. We rode west to Tellico Plains on Saturday [after our gear had been dehydrated], and had some more weather in those hills [including pea soup visibility at 5K ft on the Cherohala Skyway]. No need to stop and take scenic photographs, but we saw other bikers at some overlooks [maybe adding more layers of clothing or deciding how to proceed]... As we age, maybe the Less-Than-Committed HU riders decided to relax at home with their game consoles.
Such is life if you’re an aspiring couch potato.
Sláinte! HSV-Phil & HSV-Karen :beer

That morning, before riding onto the Cherohala, we stopped to put on our Frogg Togg jackets. It seems that
just that morning, the rangers had opened the unpaved section through the hills [closed due to previous forest fires]. The Fontana Lodge was also hosting a special Donor’s Conference to the truly dedicated SE-BDR fans, so we witnessed some of them heading into the unpaved creekside roadway while we were stopped. The presenters had a large truck and trailer with Colorado tags The park rangers in the area certainly do their best to cater to a varied crowd! :nod AND, BTW, the majority of the Dragon inside Tennessee is newly repaved [US-129]!!! We were very appreciative. :thumb Can’t say the same for the short section in NC and Rt 28 towards Robinsville. :brow
