I've had lots of bikes in the past (Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha...geez, I've pretty much had them all except a Honda, and I have my eye on a Grom!). Mostly old (I still have my 2000 Triumph Sprint ST) and many were...er...unreliable.
Then a friend told me "Stop buying 'those' bikes - buy a BMW and you'll never go back". So I did
I bought a 2008 (still old-ish!) K1200GT with ~50K miles on it. The lady I bought it from kept it IMMACULATE, as she did her garage and Porsche, so I figured it was a good sign.
So far I love it except the clutch squeak (which everyone knows about) and the fact that I'm in danger of getting stopped by the CHP - it's so easy to find yourself suddenly in the 90's or even triple-digit speeds without meaning to... Also the top-case is a little small for my regular 2-day-trip duffel bag, so one of these days I'm gonna get a 49L version...
I've taken multiple trips to Tahoe, the Oregon border and down to Santa Barbara. So far so good! No breakdowns (I wish I could say the same about the other bikes)!
