Greetings from Texas!
Until I went to a few cities in Europe for my honeymoon back in the mid-2000s, I had never really been very interested in motorcycles. But seeing them zip around town and squeeze through tight spots, I quickly became fascinated. Life, however, didn’t permit it. Then a couple of years ago I started watching the Long Way documentaries and decided it was time to have a proper midlife crisis. 18 months ago I took the course and got my license, and ended up with a Royal Enfield Hunter 350. Fun little bike to learn on and it’s great around town, but as a bigger/taller rider it didn’t take long before it started to feel a bit small.
Fast forward to this past weekend, and I got a deal on a 1980 R100RT that I just couldn’t pass up. It was exactly what I was looking for, right down to the fact that it needs A LARGE AMOUNT of love and restoration to bring it back into a roadworthy condition.
So here I am- a pretty new rider who lives a good DIY project, and I can’t wait to learn from everyone on this forum. Thanks for the add!
Here’s a picture I took when I got her into my garage over the weekend. I’ve already removed the tank and started going to work on the rust and varnish caked up inside. This is going to be a very ongoing project!
