Hello from St. Petersburg Florida (by way of Montana, and NYC)

Howdy all,
New to forums, although I may have been here previously a while a back. I recently purchased a used 2020 RT (719 options and paint) with low miles, but then traded it and my 2024 Yamaha Tracer 9GT+ in for 2024 Triple Black RT with some 719 options on it.
I am, or at least was, long distance touring guy since 2001 or so. I've been mainly a Yamaha guy, my 2009 FJR served me well for 15 years. I have owned a 2006 K1200GT, and that 2020 RT, and now this 2024 RT. (also a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 600, 2005 Yamaha FZ6, 2006 Yamaha FZ1, 2018 Yamaha XSR900, 2019 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, and the aforementioned 24 Tracer 9 GT+ and the RTs)

Grew up in Staten Island NY. Went to the same high school as the Impractical Jokers, and Vito Bratta. Moved to Montana after 9/11 so my kids could grow up with their cousins and learn how to fish , hunt, and not dodge falling buildings. Great decision.
After 21 years in Montana, the kids are self-sufficient and we are tired of cold, so we settled in St. Petersburg.

I am planning to tour on this bike, with a little less "go-go-go" than I used to use. Stop, smell the roses or actually coffee a little more. And catch up with friends all over the country before it's too late.

Hope to be a helpful contributor someday. (I've always wrenched on my own Yamaha, and need a few more torx stuff for this RT) But for now I will lurk and learn. If anyone ever wants to meet for coffee when your in my neck of the woods, I might be up for that.1000020292.jpg

Welcome to the big MOA Forum that covers many topics, Kev!

If you’re ready to start relaxing and stop rushing, I hope you find some comfort in/nr the frantic St Petersburg area... :brow We ended our search for a retirement community when we won an auction for a nice house {that we did not expect to win}. We try to stick to the FL panhandle these days, but we have friends in New Smyrna Beach. If you find yourself passing near Rocket City USA, we too can be up for coffee or other adult beverages. We have many coffee establishments as well as many craft breweries in Huntsville. :1drinkYou might need to bring the grandkids to the excellent US Space & Rocket Center where you can dance & dine on German food under the horizontal Saturn V rocket on Thursdays in the summer... :german

Welcome kevbelz! Hope the new RT serves you well. A picture or two is always a welcome addition to the thread.

With all that Tupperware, you’ll likely need to head north this summer for cooler temperatures. Of course it’s summer now all over the place! My weather app says the High tomorrow at AeroStich HQs in Duluth will be a balmy 69F! We’ve been to all 50 states on BMWs, just southern MN. - Not Duluth... Go 4 it in the summer of ‘25!

Welcome from San Diego. I recently rode my bike from San Diego to St. Augustine FL to visit my stepson (and to get the CC50 certificate from the Iron Butt Association). It was go-go-go all the way.

Just an update to anyone who follows. I am 4 months in and have done 10k miles already. I love my bike. My wallet is slowly emptying for farkling endeavors.
Ten-Thou sounds about right for a certified Iron-butt’r, Kev. Hope that U can settle down a bit over the coming winter months. If not, there’s always a 50 CC from St Augustine to San Diego that can be achieved during winter [excluding ice storms in Texas of course]! And then there’s the IBA National Parks Tour which ends 52 weeks after U choose to begin!!! :nod You can knock out many parks in the southeast over the winter easily, and then go north next year as the solstice approaches. We’ve done it twice, first a Silver, and later the Gold version. It was both Fun & Educational. :thumb

Hi Kevin. I have owned more Yamahas than any other marque (1973 TX650, 1982 Virago 750, 2012 Super Tenere, 2017 FJ09) but my current bike is a 2023 BMW R1250R, and I love the beast! When I lived in Alberta, I had some excellent experiences in Montana. I had friends in Billings, and enjoyed some great flights in my hot air balloon there.
Cheers,
Bruce

I'll miss the summers in Montana (actually we'll be visiting often in the summer), but not the winters. My son played hockey in Montana from age 8 till age 18, and I have PTSD from winter travel. All hockey in Montana is considered "travel" hockey. When the Montana teams are spread out from Kalispell, to Missoula, Great Falls to Butte to Bozeman, Billings, Havre, Glasgow. Then tournaments in Salt Lake Denver, and Alberta (where we took our kids to show them what good hockey looked like) I'll also miss my FJR.

My 11 year old grandson and 9 year old granddaughter are hockey players here in Montana. It is a great sport for young kids. They haven’t had to do much traveling yet. My daughter played basketball when we lived in Fairbanks, AK and they traveled quite a bit. Fly to Utqiagvik (Barrow), bus and ferry to Cordova and bus to everywhere else.

I had a 2013 FJR and a 2012 Super Tenere. The FJR is a very fine motorcycle. Ultra reliable, more than enough power and well handling as well. The ST shared the Yamaha reliability, but I thought it as very top heavy and agricultural ride.
