Hard downshifting 1150GS

Has anybody with an 1150GS had experience with hard downshifting in 2nd and 3rd gears. The bike has 6,000 miles on it and doesnt happen all the time. I think it happens mostly at slower speeds. But sometimes there's no telling. I end up stomping a little harder to get it in or have to feel the spot with the clutch that allows the gear to engage. Any comments

Me too

I asked essentially the same question on IBMWR... most of the responses were "sometimes yes, sometimes no".

FWIW, mine has 23K on it and can be clunky, but not with any discernable pattern. Phases of the moon, perhaps?

Tomorrow I'm flushing the gear box and filling it with synthetic 75/90. We'll see if that does the trick.

Yes, happened exactly as you noted. My '01 GS had about 8K on the odom, and 2 or 3rd gears, slowing down and downshifting, occasionally had to really give it a kick.

Dealer thought it was a problem with the splines... bring it in. Much worse... there was an internal fluid leak in the clutch housing and it was a mess. Resulting heat had damaged much. Total clutch replacement under warranty.

So nice to be able to shift now without any resistance. This is normal. What you are experiencing is not -- have it looked into.
