Exciting New GS-911 Software Update – Available from 28 May*!

We’re thrilled to announce a brand-new software update for the HEX GS-911, packed with brilliant new features and improvements for BMW motorcycle owners and workshops.

The update will be available from Wednesday, *28 May 2025 for ProUnlimited subscribers, and will roll out to all GS-911 users from Thursday, 5 June 2025.

This release includes long-requested coding options, handy new service functions, and wider model support – all designed to help you get the most from your BMW bike.

I just received the same email overnight. Interesting they waited until June 5 to announce an update available from May 28. Nevertheless I'm pleased to be getting the update. (y)

They hype the early access as a bonus for the more costly subscription model I presume. I see no harm in it nor do I see much advantage either which is why I am an Enthusiast.

At some point I guess I will catch the wave and git and old one for the F800GS. No rush as the service light has been on for 10 years or so when a servicing dealer didn’t think I would want to change/update it. 🙄 :brad

The Pro/Unlimited subscribers are more likely to try all the new features sooner (or almost immediately) and therefore be able to provide feedback from a smaller pool of users, allowing some last minute fixes to be possible before the update goes out to everyone.

It also allows those that use it professionally to be able to get the update more smoothly, as if released to everyone at once, those that rely on it for business use might have to "wait in line" and be unable to operate as a business until they are able to complete the update.

Got an email announcing:

Dear HEX GS-911 User,

The road is calling, and we’ve been busy in the workshop making sure your HEX GS-911 is ready for the journey ahead. We are excited to announce our latest software update, designed to give you even more control over your BMW motorcycle’s maintenance and performance.

This release brings you many features and functions you’ve been asking for.

Whether you’re exploring on the new R1300 GS, cruising on an R18, or maintaining a trusted K-series tourer, this update is packed with tools to help you ride with total confidence.

Yeppers. Just saw the same email in my inbox. I'll be updating once I get to my office so I can work while it updates. Then I'll update my home laptop and desktop tonight. Woot woot 🎉

It's a big update as both the computer/laptop software and the GS911 itself got updated... For those with a R 1300 you can now fully calibrate the suspension system and check its function including fluid status..

Guessing still no heated grip adjustments?

It will be tough to change features on the new bikes as it requires a connection to bmw germany to validate the change. Maybe they will get an agreement with them but they already said they do not want to hack it as they do not want to damage their relationship with BMW.

I got the update a couple days ago when I went to reset the service reminder and scan for codes as part of my spring servicing. Got the notice yesterday.

I remember reading something similar or something something encryption. *sigh*

From Hex website

Hi Guys

Just adding our link to the FAQ regarding the more advanced functionality for the R1300:
https://www.hexgs911.com/faq/why-cant-i-code-my-r1300gs-instrument-cluster/

Once we decipher it, the FAQ will be removed.

Kind regards and safe travels

Frequently Asked Question

Why can't I code my R1300GS or 2025 XKOMBB2 Instrument Cluster?

With the introduction of the new R1300GS/A and R12/nineT/GS, BMW has changed the internal CAN Bus layout and interconnections between different functions so that the Body Domain Controller now serves as the gateway to the internal diagnostics for the vehicle. In addition, they have also changed how controllers are coded in that coding of a controller now happens through a series of encryption and decryption steps. This is known as coding v2.0 and logically poses a challenge to any 3rd party tools that want to make arbitrary changes on a controller in order to allow custom functionality. As far as we can establish, coding v2.0 requires communication with the BMW server in Germany in order to change a controller's configuration. Therefore, it is currently impossible to change the configuration in e.g. the Instrument Cluster or the Body Controller, from within a standalone tool.
Starting from October 2024, BMW has also started fitting the XKOMBB2 Instrument cluster to the existing F800GS, F900GS, F900R, F900XR, S1000RR and M1000RR series. Therefore it is currently not possible to perform a configuration change or Retrofit on vehicles with this Instrument Cluster fitted.
A visual method to tell the instrument clusters apart is that the new XKOMBB2 does not have a square, grey background underneath the Gear Indicator on the TFT display, like the older displays have.

Thanks, Shawn. I upgraded last night in advance of annual maint on my R1300GS this weekend.
