Hello all! Not new to riding but was looking for a mill that had more power and still be a good all-rounder, and I was led to a a 2009 R 1200 GS with just 13,600 miles on the clock at the BMW dealer. Apparently was just traded in by a “regular buyer who acquires new BMW bikes at least once a year” and was on a first-name basis with the staff. In brief, this example was exceptionally well maintained. He even had stickers with TP settings F and R on the fork/swingarm!
Was a little nervous about acquiring this bike at first given I’d never bought a used bike “this old,” but after researching it appears this particular example is the last airhead and is considered to be one of the better GS models to have. I liked it because it has none of that electronic overkill on it.
Definitely has a character all its own, and I’m just starting to see why folks who start with this marque usually stay with it. Very comfortable with stock seat and geometry, well balanced, and effortless power. Sounds like a tank with its “kerthunk” when I change gears, but I dig it!
Anyhoo, looking forward to adding many more miles to my new-to-me mill and learning about these machines from y’all. Thanks for reading!
