Saludos y buenas rutas.

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT IT
Hello everyone in the group!

I'm writing to share a customization project I'm working on for my R18 and, while I'm at it, see if anyone has done this before and can offer some advice.

The idea is to create the classic three-headlight front end, but combining the heavy-duty crash bars with the original BMW headlights. To ensure the electrical system is perfectly integrated and the bike's software recognizes it, I already have the original wiring harness and handlebar controls from the Classic.

The hardware I'm using:

Crash Bars: Wunderlich chrome 32mm (1-1/4").
Auxiliary Lights: Original BMW R18 Classic (OEM 63179443350) in chrome finish.
Clamps: Custom Dynamics chrome 1-1/4" (billet type). Adapter: Denali intermediate mounting bracket for OEM BMW headlights (LAH.07.10900) in matte black.

The challenge and how I'm solving it:

Since the Classic's OEM headlights aren't designed to fit a 32mm smooth tube (instead using a factory mount), I put together a sort of kit. The idea is to clamp the bumper with the chrome Custom Dynamics clamp, screw the flat base of the Denali adapter to it, and finally fit the original BMW headlight neck (which is black plastic) into the tabs of the Denali adapter.

My question (and where I need your advice):

I considered having the Denali adapter chromed to create a continuous mirror arm, but since the original headlight neck is plastic, it's risky and a complex process. For now, I'm leaning towards assembling it with contrast: chrome bumper $\rightarrow$ chrome clamp $\rightarrow$ black Denali adapter $\rightarrow$ black headlight neck $\rightarrow$ chrome headlight housing.

My questions for those with more experience using these modifications:

Has anyone done a similar adaptation by stacking hardware from different brands?

How did you find the vibrations from the 1800cc Boxer engine? When you move the headlight away from the crash bar (lever effect), does the light loosen or vibrate excessively while riding?
Do you see any weak points in this setup, or do you have any suggestions for alternative clamps before I tighten all the bolts?

Any advice, warnings, or experiences are greatly appreciated!

Cheers and happy riding!

I can help you with engine vibration. Adjust your valve clearance. This makes a big difference with engine vibration's. My valves were way out of adjustment. Once adjusted, it will be smoother. Good luck. Lenn
