I took my 2019 F750GS to a dealer today to have the firmware updated. The back story: I bought the bike last year from the PO with only 1555km. He had the first service done and nothing since. He told me his dealer said there was an update available back in 2020, but he didn't have it done. So I took it in today for the update. The dealer said it would take about 30 minutes or so when I booked the appointment. However, when they connected the bike to the computer it said there were 22 updates, and it would take over 2 hours to do. I had to ride 3 hours one way to the dealership so told them to go ahead and get it done, because I didn't want to come back. Well, they ran into an issue with about 2 updates to go: black TFT screen. Long story short, they managed to repair that issue and install the remaining updates, and my original 30 minute appointment turned into 5 hours. There was talk of sending me home with a loaner in case they couldn't get the bike up and running in time. But I didn't want to do that because it would mean another 6 hour round trip.
Anyway, the dealership was very good to me and felt terrible that the service took so long. Not their fault in my opinion - stuff happens. They honoured their original 30 minute estimate and charged me only for 1/2 hour labour, for a job that took 5.
At least now the bike's firmware is up to date and I was able to drive it home, albeit much later than expected!
Cheers!
