engine oil level 1999 R1100 S

Anyone know when BMW began using oil temp thermostats in R1100 machines? My '93 R1100RSL doesn't have one so no need to go on side stand to get oil to drain from the oil cooler just go directly to the center stand and wait about 15 minutes. No biggee just curious.

I always put the RT on the sidestand for a while before the center stand then looking at the sight glass if I want an accurate repeatable reading. On the RT (yours may be different) I could not get such readings if I placed the hot bike directly on the center stand no matter how long it sat.

My thinking on using the side stand first is from looking at the direction of flow and where the cooler drain line is located at the lower left side. It makes sense to me to encourage it to do so by leaning the bike that way also. YMMV

The OP has a '99 1100S (not to be confused with other 1100 models - it is essentially an 1150 platform)

It has the internal thermostat.
