Digital Coolant Temperature Gauge Install Problem

Yesterday I installed an aftermarket digital coolant temperature display with an inline temperature sending sensor. The kit came with most everything needed except for some cable ties and any terminals to connect the power wires. There were a couple of Scotch clips included but I prefer not to use them. Overall a pretty easy install. I temporarily connected the unit to the battery and ran the engine to test it and it's working as it should.

My problem is I'm having a difficult time deciding where to connect the power wires. If connected directly to the battery the display would be on continuously, there is no on/off switch. The wire cable is not long enough to route all the way back to the fuse block under the front of the seat. I would prefer not to splice in some extra length but I may have to.

Is anyone aware of an ignition switched power source that I could tap into for power to the temperature display? Ideally up in front. This is a 2014 G650GS Sertao.

Is it the original fuse location that came with the bike OR-

In either case, I would run back to the under the seat location to a "fused" location. With a long run, weaving along the bike to the power location, I would install a fuse to protect the power lead- Just in case.

It's a Norxi that was purchased from Amazon. I have some surplus wire that is sheathed and running some back to the fuse block seams to be a good option.

There is no auxiliary fuse block on the cycle. There are a couple of appliances connected directly to the battery that are not switched, GPS mount, Battery Tender, that I'm thinking should be lead to a fuse block but then I'm back to the same problem with ignition switching .

I think some of the “newer” bikes did away with actual fuses…..which I always liked seeing. Not sure on your bike.
There is some easy relay wiring diagrams here on the forum that, if you wanted or needed to go down that more complicated path, I would be happy to hunt up. 😊

I found an unused auxiliary plug under the seat near the fuse block with 3 wires, one constant hot, one switched and the third one is neutral. Connected into two of those and then checked the operation of the standard systems. No interference or issues. Used a couple of crimp on connectors with heat shrink, some electrical tape and a few wire ties to wrap things up. Good to go!
