Cleaning old fuel stains?

Now that I've sorted out the pissing fuel lines on my new to me '99 R11R, I want to try to clean off the staining on the frame elements, paralever, etc. It appears to be a coated/painted surface, so it looked to be more than surface deep. A few trial runs with different washes/polishes proved that out.

Anybody have any experience/wisdom to share?

I got some yellow staining from oil below the TDC plug on the left side. I never was able to remove that staining. Even rubbing compound failed.

When it happened to my K1200RS I was able to paint the stained areas with Silver Wurth paint.
