Carbon Fiber Touch-up

I bought an '03 R11S BCR the other day and there is some minor scuffing on the carbon fiber engine covers (nothing more - I took them off the bike to carefully look at everything). Is there a reasonably simple method to restore the finish: buffing, epoxy varnish, etc.? There are no structural issues, merely cosmetic.

Are they scratches on the surface? That should be pretty easy to remedy with some very fine grit sandpaper (2000 grit<)
I suppose it they were very deep you might try to get some resin and fill the gaps, although I don't know if resin will bond to hardened resin.

OTOH, when my Triumph Sprint fell off it's SHB stand (don't ask) it crunched the CF fender, separating the resin a bit, about the size of a quarter, from the kevlar cloth. Nothing to do about that wouldn't compromise the integrity of the fender so I left it alone.

fwiw, I get all my carbon stuff from Fiberglast

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there are some minor "gouges," but only through the clearcoat finish. I went to the site you recommended and they sell a gelcoat and hardener. I'm sure this product will do the trick. It's merely a cosmetic issue. The engine covers on the Boxer Cup Replica just cover the magnesium covers...and they do it very well, in fact. New ones list out at $513 - APIECE!!! Yikes. I can do a lot of sanding and filling and gelcoating for that kind of money!

When you order it, talk the the salesperson. They are very well informed. Like I said, I'm not certain that resin will stick to hardened resin. I know fiberglass resin will, but I dont' know. Not impling it WON'T, just don't know.

haha, when i smashed my disclock through mine i just gaffing taped it

it remains that way to this day

I'd leave it, it makes it look like you've been scraping them on turn entries!
