Back on my old standbys -- the R100

First joined BMW MOA in 1971 after returning from Vietnam and purchasing my first Beemer, a R75/5. Later in San Antonio I owned a 1983 R100 and one of the few 1984 R100 RT Last Editions. Sold these later in the 80's and did not ride again until 2015 when I purchased a 2012 Ural GearUp Yamal edition (only 50 produced). Wanted to get back on a two-wheeler as I was somewhat spoiled and lazy with the Ural with sidecar rig -- you do have to manhandle it, but maneuvers nothing like a two-wheeler. Found this 1991 R100 Classic (only 180 produced -- mine is sequence S/N 086) and went to Arizona last week to purchase and trailer it back to Lubbock.

Welcome rkmiller! Are you back on two wheels yet or are you giving it a once over before first ride? Thanks for posting the great pics.

Hallo RK in Lubbock!
U seem to be into unique, Limited-edition motorcycles. Enjoy everything U can lay your hands on, cause that's what it's all about! Two-wheels is best whilst we can still manage them, but you're all trained-up for your next chapter when the time comes.
See if ya can make it to the next MOA National Rally in Tennessee next June. 2019 was great there; they're goin for 2 in a row in the central-US! Redmond was also fun, but for us it was certainly a challenge to go campout in 2024 (5,500 mi).

Go meet some of your local brethren when the time is right.... :nod

I will give it a thorough cleaning on Sunday. Then I may gingerly ride around the neighborhood and on a parking lot -- the way i first trained in 1971. But, to be safe I will also take a basic riders course in early September: I won't mind dropping their cheap, lightweight bikes. I did ride it to the local vehicle inspection station, which was required as it is an out-of-state vehicle, but that was a little shaky.
