Motlights Vs Piaa

I am trying to decide between the moto and piaa. I talked to the guys at BOBs BMW . The motolights are a cleaner mount and light up the sides of the road very well. Funtion similar to fog lights. The Piaa lights throw a longer beam. The mounts are not as good and there are fewer types. Moto have several mounting sysems that are highly recomnded by a couple of the guys from Bobs. The Piaa are a little cheaper.
I would like to here from more people who have used one or the other. good luck.

third option

I just temp mounted some PIAA 910's on the engine guard of my 04 RS. They are kinda big and require top hang mounting but, light is light. I will be comparing lighting patternsthem with a smallish set I discovered, from the Electrical Connection same as sold at Deals Gap (Sport Touring accessories) on "The Dragon".

Finding myself intending to get back into high intensity riding I find myself with some of the same questions on aux. lites. Probably won't know much till mid March though. Rides have been short and cold and not at night. Still winter here and that nasty white dust on the roads makes literally everywhere potentially slippery. But I can let you know my observations if you are still interested.

Then again finding my self period has been a life long challenge.

I have the stalk mounted PIAA 1100s on my '96 R. I have had them for over 10 years, and (the mounts) have been trouble free. The PIAAs light up the road much better than the caliper mounted Motolights on my '04 RT.

This may be a silly question , but I want to be sure. Are stalk mounts the same as fork mounts ? I was leaning twards the moto because of the mounting . I do alot of freeway driving and some arround town driving . I like the idea of lightinjg up the road better . (most important to me) and a close secound wold be haw well others see me .
I kind of hijacked the 1st guys question, but I think that all of the feed back its great . The lighting is a little pricy so this is a great help to me .

I chose to have my lights mounted on the frame because I was not sure if I would like lights turning with the fork.

Anybody have used both mountings? and which one is preferable. Thanks.

i'd really like to hear opinions on this as well. i can think of reasons why both would be good or bad, but would like to hear from experienced folks.

Aux Lighting

I bought PIAA 1100x and plan to use fender mounts. They will be used for for conspicuity and for added lighting at night. I was planning on keeping it simple . I will use the switch and relay included and wire it dirrect to the battery. I bought the PIAA lights to get better visability infront of me , but also will use them as driving lights. your thoughts on this plan would be appreciated.

Multiple Issues....

More lights to see the road ahead...in normal driving....on a dark lonely road at high speed....to see better around corners on a twisty road....etc....

More lights to be seen better by uncoming traffic...

Conflicting issues.....mounting running lights near your turn signals makes it impossible for oncoming traffic to see your turn signal when you are making a turn....

My solution is to mount Motolights at the axle as running lights....good recognition visability for oncoming traffic....and added benefit of providing lighting around turns and the side of the road when on a dark twisty road....I'm using 45 watt each bulbs....

My solution for the long high speed road use on dark roads is PIAA 910's with 110 watts of light in each light.....these are VERY good lights for highspeed riding on straight dark roads.....HID's might be bettter...but were not available at the time....and I have not seen a HID light with as focused a pattern for this application (probably can't make one because it would blind an on coming driver)

I also ride with my standard headlight as my normal headlight, tilted slightly low to avoid offending oncoming cars......since I can use my 910's when I need to see farther down the road.....

I never complain about my lights....they have given me what I have needed in all situations....

I bought these lights at Napa, they are implement lights with aviation landing lights. 100watt/ 100,000 candlepower. I used a 30 amp relay with a switch ahead of that , then I tied it to the highbeam switch. Works awesome. Brightest lights I ever riden with. I can see signs miles down the road, and the ditch looks like daylight. I live in no. Mn. very rural and lot's of deer.

Light system tie in.

, then I tied it to the highbeam switch.

So where is a good place to tie into the factory wiring? At or near the headlight connector seems to be a good place. Is there a better spot?

And, is the tie in location even more critical if I am using a headlight modulator??

So, how much did the Napa setup cost, more or less, after the relay and all? I need some of these on my little John Deere 420 crawler, too. Might be able to fashion a decent mount for the incoming 12RT.
