Apple AirPods for Riding

Anyone using these for music or GPS prompts? I normally use ear plugs but can still hear speakers. Just wondering if the noise cancelling pods work as well as earplugs for bike and road noise yet still let you hear music and GPS.

Noise cancelling technology is not noise attenuation technology, ie., hearing protection. There is little to no NRR protection using earbuds or AirPods.

Duelin answered you. For quiet riding and the ability to hear my iPhone, if desired, I use Etymotic ER3s and they give something like 80db noise reduction just by the flange design. They plug into a tiny BT amp/adapter which picks up audio from my iPhone. I have a JBL BT remote on the handle bar which is a great waterproof gizmo. It's one big knob which you click to pause, dble click to advance and turn for volume. I often ride with no audio playing and the noise reduction of the earplugs alone is excellent. They also make dumb earplugs with no speakers in them.

I've used my AP2 Pro's a few times. I agree with Dave, if you're trying to protect your hearing, this isn't going to do it for you. I use a pilot's skull cap under my helmet to help pulling on my Schubert C3Pro with my glasses. This also helps keep the AP2 in my ears as well. Not so much when removing my helmet though. I decided to go back to earplugs and my Sena speakers.
