'96 1100GS Buffeting on the Highway

Just passed the one year anniversary with my new bike and it is running great after a few maintenance issues!!

I've noticed that riding with the wind at highway speeds is great. But riding against the wind--even low wind--is very uncomfortable. I feel lots of wind pressure on my upper arms and chest. Being a new rider, I would think some of this is normal but the last couple of rides were really challenging with buffeting. The wind was light, maybe 5-7 miles per hour. I can't imagine touring with the current setup.

My bike has the tall version of the VStream windscreen. I am 6' 2" and have the seat at the high position.

Any useful thoughts and comments welcome. Thanks!

Common problem on a lot of motorcycles. The laminar lip type ( there are various ones out there ) have worked well for me and many others and they are relatively cheap. Various options out there, so do a few searches for ones that will fit your bike.

One misconception is that a taller windshield will help buffeting, well that is often false and a lower windshield will make it better because your helmet runs in clean air. The wind pressure on your arms, upper shoulders etc you will get used to, but the buffeting is a real pain.

You can chase your butt off and spend wads of money on windshields ( they are related to seats ), but its been my experience the simplest seems to work ( laminar lip type ).
