Hi , does anyone know what color the 616 works out to? the bike is 87 K100rt but it was a repaint, its the silver grey color. The same as 87 K75c int the 616.

Thank you.

616 is the BMW paint SCHEME code for Columbia Silver. Columbia Silver is a blueish green silver that came on 1985-87 K100s and K75s.

BMW used Glasurit paint. The Glasurit paint CODE for Columbia Silver is 204.

Glasurit is owned by BASF. BASF's other paint lines are R&M and Limco. BASF offers mixing cross references between the three lines for a perfect color match, so if you don't want to spend $300+ for a quart of Glasurit, you can get exact matching R&M or Limco for around $50 a quart.

I don't know how you know these things, but glad you do!

I just went through a year of researching paint for one of my Marakesh Red K75Ss. Nobody around here uses Glasurit. It's hard (and expensive) to get. No one wants to use it on a one off thing.

Every one uses base coat clear coat. Our motorcycles were painted with single stage. While local paint shops could match the color visually (if they were good), they wouldn't be able to match the sheen between single stage and base coat clear coat. Single stage paint's gloss is IN the paint. Base coat clear coats shine is ON TOP of the color, in the clear coat. Not a real problem if you are painting the whole bike, but is noticeable when two different panels are next to each other on the same bike.

I finally found a shop that uses Limco Supreme single stage on their lower cost paint jobs. They were able to look up the cross reference mixing formula and it is a PERFECT match with out the subjective eyeballing that someone that was using PPG or other brands would have to do.

That is the color of my '87 K100RT. You don't see to many that color. Yes the bike kinda changes colors in the sunlight. Silver, green, turquoise really neat.

Thanks for the info, I was able to find the Limco paint nearby and picked up a pint. The match is pretty amazing. There sure are a lot of little things that can go wrong painting but I got thru it ok.
