2004 R1150GS tranny locking on upshift?

Hi all,

My new to me, well-serviced GS with 68k has just started doing something strange. The tranny seems to go "solid" and locking up in random gears, particularly on upshifts. The only thing I can think of is that my new boots may have been "over-preloading" (it seems they prefer some preload) the lever, if that makes any sense. I changed my foot position away from the lever and it seemed to return to normal? This never happened with my older, smaller boots that had a bit more "feel." This seems too simple, no?

So, beyond what seems too obvious, I have searched and searched and the only results returned seemed to be regarding disassembly, cleaning, and lubing of the shift lever. Has anyone any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Just got new riding boots myself and have developed almost the exact same problem with my K. I just posted a similar thread in the wedge subforum looking for help.

Interesting! I may not be as crazy as the wife claims! I am going to pull the old boots out of the bin and try again!

Don't feel like an idiot, because I did the same thing! :dance

I am going to stay with my new boots and change my foot position, at least until they are a bit more broken-in and some of that lever-sensitivity returns to my toes.

It would be interesting to hear from the tech folks regarding this, especially regarding the potential for too much preload possibly being introduced into the transmission, and what ramifications this could have beyond the immediate problems in this thread.

Thanks!
